Rydell, Rae to perform at Coon Rapids concert

The free outdoor show is part of Coon Rapids Arts Commission’s 2012 Thursday Nites Live summer series – the eighth of nine concerts.

Rydell has entertained with not only country, but gospel, patriotic and variety music for many years playing nine musical instruments.

She has performed all over the United States, Canada, Europe and Central America and has appeared on stage with Barbara Mandrell, Charlie Pride and Conway Twitty, among others.

Rydell is a winner of the Entertainer of the Year Award presented by the Country Entertainers Association of the Upper Midwest.

Rydell and Rae, who has been performing country songs for many years herself, will both be appearing at the 2012 Minnesota State Fair Thursday and Friday, Aug. 23 and 24, giving three performances each day.

The remaining concert on the 2012 schedule is Thursday, Aug. 9 when the Sonny Winberg Band will entertain with top 40 country music.

The Shortstop Bar & Grill on Northdale Boulevard is sponsoring the Aug. 2 concert, one of eight in the 2012 series that it is sponsoring.

For refreshments at the performance pavilion, Boy Scout Troop 524, Church of the Epiphany, is selling popcorn, candy, soda and water, while the Coon Rapids North Star Lions Club has food items such as hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, walking tacos, nachos and cheese and brats for sale.

The Coon Rapids Arts Commission, which is a volunteer advisory commission to the city council, plans arts events in Coon Rapids throughout the year.

The Anoka County Parks and Recreation Department is co-sponsoring the series. It is not charging admission to the regional park for the concerts.
