CUP approved in Oak Grove

A conditional use permit request for an automobile sales business has been approved by the Oak Grove City Council.

Councilmembers approved the request July 30.

Greg Grady requested the permit to operate Grady Motors at 2303 181st Ave. N.E. The 1.2 acre parcel is zoned general business and currently contains a 2,100 square-foot building. Formerly there was an auto body shop and a landscaping business on the site.

Auto sales are a conditional use in the general business district, said City Administrator Rick Juba.

According to information provided by Grady, his business is 90 percent wholesale and 10 percent retail, which means the business sells the majority of its vehicles to other dealers. These other dealers then display the vehicles for public sale.

Grady said the shop will be used for detailing and minor repairs between purchase and sale. He said he strictly deals with operable vehicles.

The CUP request calls for permission to park up to 26 cars on the exterior of the property. A car hauler will also be parked on site from time to time, according to Grady.

The only employees are Grady and his son, and customer traffic will be limited because of the wholesale aspect of the business.

In the future, Grady also plans to lease a portion of the building and lot to another business. As part of the CUP approval, the secondary use of the property or rental must be approved by the city prior to starting.
