Blaine council approves sale of $1,200,000 in city bonds

The Blaine City Council approved a $1,200,000 bond sale at a special meeting Monday, July 31. The sale was the third of a scheduled four for this year to refinance temporary bonding coming due.

The sale was awarded to the low bidder, Dane, Kalman & Quail, syndicate head, at a net interest dollar cost of $487,155 and net interest rate of 5.04301 percent.

Two tough losses for Park soccer team

Spring Lake Park’s under 14 soccer team dropped a pair of tough matches during the Midwestern Regional Cup playoff in Detroit last month.

Park lost to eventual national champion Ohio South 4-0 in the first round and fell behind Ohio North 6-1 early in the consolation round before fighting back to make it 6-4. Goals were scored by Sean Cooney, Steve Sadecki and two by Brian Armstrong. Over 3,000 spectators and 1,200 players participated in the tournament.

Elite feats

Take one Chad Rosen of Blaine. The soon-to-be freshman football player at Spring Lake Park High School has distinguished himself as one of the best young track athletes in the state. Earlier this summer, Rosen was one of the top local competitors in the Team Hershey Track Championships series. He then went on to enhance his standing in track by gaining a State Championship (Team Hershey) in the standing long jump with a leap of 8 feet 11 inches.
