Poised to begin its fifth season, Laughter in the Loft is on the move with a new name and venue.
After offering comedy in the upstairs loft of the current City Side Bar and Grill, Joe Tanner has opted to find a new home for comedy in Coon Rapids.
That new home is Yes and Food, located at 3373 Coon Rapids Blvd.
A new name also marks the comedy venture’s new location.
The comedy show will be known as Yes and Food Presents Laughter in the Loft.
It’s a win-win situation for both parties.
“When I walked into Yes and Food, I knew instantly that if I could have designed a comedy room for the north suburbs, it would be exactly like this one,” Tanner said.
“The room is equipped just how I would want it.
“A sound booth, wonderful lighting, stage and a sound system that beats all.
“The seating is fantastic with zero bad seats.”
And the comedy will bring new customers to Yes and Food, where performances focus on improv.
During the comedy shows, Yes and Food will offer food, drink and appetizers.
Dinner is also available before the shows.
Comedy will begin Sept. 15 with Coon Rapids resident Bob Larson taking the stage at 7 p.m.
The next show is Sept. 22 and following shows will continue every other Saturday beginning in October.
Shows all start at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10.
The comedy shows are billed as “cable clean” with a mature content, Tanner said.
Plans are under way to bring in comics including Dwight York, Dan “Common Man” Cole, Wild Bill Bauer, Michael Thorne, Dave Mordal, Mary Mack and others, according to Tanner.
Future plans also include classes for those who want to venture into live stand-up comedy, Tanner said.
As part of these classes, a final exam for those students could include real performances at Yes and Food, he said.
Those planning to attend Yes and Food Presents Laughter in the Loft are encouraged to make reservations for fall and winter shows as seating is limited.
Tanner also offers company holiday parties, wedding parties and group rates are available.
