Golf column: Fall golf in Minnesota

I can’t believe that fall is almost here. Our state fair just started and the kids are heading back to school.

Believe it or not, now is the best time to play a round of golf. You will find that the courses are in great shape and the leaves are beginning to turn.

In the rest of this article I am going to give you some ideas on where to play.

Like I have mentioned in the past, there are great courses in Anoka County. Most offer discounts after Labor Day and most are not very busy, so if you have some extra time just play one of our courses in Anoka County.

If you can get out of town here are some of my favorite places to play.

Top of my list is The Preserve at Grand View. Every hole has a vista and it is cut through the trees in Nisswa.

Another great course in the Brainerd area is Legacy at Cragans. If you are around Crosslake I would suggest playing Golden Eagle.

On the northeast side of the state I would play Giants Ridge in Biwabik.

On the southeast side I would head down to Winona and play Somerby or The Jewel.

On the southwest side I would suggest Marshall Golf Club and on the northwest I would play Alexandria Country Club.

If gambling is in your game check out the following casino courses: The Wilderness at Fortune Bay, Dakota Ridge at Jackpot Junction, Mississippi National by Treasure Island and Turtle Back next to St. Croix Casino.

I have played all of these great courses and I highly recommend the drive. So I hope you get out of town  this fall and enjoy a round of golf.

If you can’t travel, play one of the great tracks in Anoka County and enjoy the colors.
