State fair is topic of Coon Rapids Tea Talk

The Minnesota State Fair will be the focus of Coon Rapids Senior Services’ monthly Tea Talk presentation Wednesday, Sept. 5, 1:30 p.m., at the Coon Rapids Civic Center.

Speakers are the mother and daughter team of Kathyrn Strand Koutsky and Linda Koutsky, who are authors of the book, “Minnesota State Fair: An Illustrated History.”

They will talk about the start of the Minnesota State Fair in 1854, the legendary horse Dan Patch, Teddy Roosevelt’s famous grandstand speech, the invention of the mini donuts, the discovery of batter-fried cheese curds, Machinery Hill, Ye Old Mill, the Epiphany Diner and much more.

Refreshments will be served following the presentation. The cost to attend is $3.
