Defensive driving for seniors

Coon Rapids Senior Services is hosting Minnesota Safety Council defensive driving classes at the Coon Rapids Civic Center this fall.

Both an eight-hour class and four-hour refresher courses will be offered for people age 55 and over with a valid driver’s license.

By attending the defensive driving course, drivers can get a 10 percent discount on their automobile insurance for three years.

First-time participants must attend the eight-hour course; others can take the shorter four-hour refresher course every three years.

The eight-hour class costs $20 and will be offered at the civic center Mondays, Sept. 17 and 24 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Four-hour refresher classes, which cost $18, are scheduled Monday, Sept. 10, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Monday, Oct. 1, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.; Monday, Oct. 22, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Monday, Nov. 5, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and Monday, Nov. 19, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.
