Four members of the department took part in the “Tip-a-Cop” event.

The officers greeted guests, helped servers and raised donations for Special Olympics.

Restaurant patrons had the opportunity to leave an extra “tip” for the officers, with all money going to benefit the non-profit organization. The event raised $1,400.

Brian Beedle, Coon Rapids Police officer, helped organize the event.

Special Olympics Minnesota is an organization that offers sports training and competition to children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Law enforcement has had a long history of supporting the Special Olympics organization, according to Beedle.

Other events that law enforcement has participated in to help the organization include the Torch Run and the Polar Plunge, Beedle said.
