Coon Rapids holds recruitment night of police explorers

Recruitment night for the Coon Rapids Police Explorer Post will take place Sunday, Sept. 16, 7 p.m., at the Coon Rapids City Center, 11155 Robinson Drive N.W.

The Coon Rapids Police Explorer program is an opportunity for young adults interested in learning about a career in law enforcement, according to Officer Adam Jacobson, Explorer program coordinator.

Explorers take part in scenario-based training, assist with community service events, attend state law enforcement Explorer conferences and ride along with patrol officers, Jacobson said.

“Members also have the opportunity to apply for and earn scholarship money,” he said.

Participants in the Explorer program have to be 14 to 20 years of age, have completed eighth-grade, maintain a C or better grade-point average, submit to a background check, participate in an oral interview and attend weekly meetings.
