Oak Grove’s 2012 overlay and crack sealing projects are set to be completed later this fall.
As part of the unanimous Oak Grove City Council approval, Knife River Corporation was awarded the overlay contract. The company was the low bidder with a proposal for $201,568.
“Knife River really wanted this contract,” said City Engineer Brian Miller.
Knife River’s bid was $20,000 less than the next lowest bidder, Miller told the council.
Streets in the 2012 overlay project include those in the Fox Ridge area (204th, Blackfoot, 206th Lane, Zea Street and the 205th cul-de-sac and Aztec stub street) and the Heather Street area north of Viking Boulevard and east of County Road 9. Sunshine Drive is also included in the overlay project.
According to a staff report, these streets are 18 to 20 years old and are rural section roads where overlay is the cheapest maintenance alternative.
The 2012 crack sealing project will be completed by Bargen, Inc. for $60,000.
As part of the project, the company will seal cracks in city streets for $1.79 per pound of sealant installed. Estimates call for 30,000 pounds to be used.
