The University of Iowa Symphony Orchestra will perform in concert at Blaine High School Thursday, Sept. 20.
The all-Russian program will include Shostakovitch’s “Symphony No. 9,” Prokofiev’s “Piano Concerto No. 3” and Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture.”
Selected Blaine High School orchestra students will play with the Iowa orchestra in the concert’s finale.
Ksenia Nosikova, professor of piano at the University of Iowa and graduate of the Moscow Conservatory, will be featured soloist. Nosikova has performed extensively as a solo pianist and chamber musician worldwide.
William Larue Jones conducts. The founder and former artistic director of the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies, Jones has been a professor of music and director of orchestra studies in Iowa since 1997. Jones has conducted throughout North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia.
In the past 20 years, the Blaine High School Orchestras have hosted community performances by the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and the University of Minnesota Symphony Orchestra, as well as orchestra tour concerts from Luther College and Concordia-Moorhead.
The Iowa Symphony Orchestra tour concert will be performed Sept. 20, 7 p.m., at Blaine High School, 12555 University Ave. N.E. A free will offering will be taken to defray concert costs. For more information, call 763-506-6737.
