Girls’ athletic competition approved by District 16 Board

At a special meeting of the School District 16 Board of Education, Aug. 29, the Board approved the Inter-District competition for the following girls’ activities:

Fall–basketball and tennis

Winter–volleyball and gymnastics


These activities will be carried on in the Skyline Conference.

Blaine unloads a load on Forest Lake

Don Larson-coached football teams have rolled up big opening night victories before, but not, perhaps as smoothly, as the 42-0 win over Forest Lake.

“I can remember a 54-0 win over Coleraine when I was at Hibbing one season,” he said. “And we had that big win a couple of years ago over Ramsey to open the season. But that win was not a shutout. This one was better.”

Car show celebrates 25 years of excellence

Aquatore Park in Blaine was the sight of the annual Twin City Collectors Car Show and Concours d’Elegance last weekend. Hosted by the North Central Chapter Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club, the show was celebrating its 25th anniversary.

As in years past, the show featured some of the finest cars ever made. Awards and trophies were given out in 39 different classes.
