The fifth annual Nowthen Heritage Festival is set for Saturday, Sept. 22 in the Nowthen Park and at city hall.
The event will start with a pancake breakfast in the Nowthen fire station and a 5K race/walk is sponsored by the Nowthen Lions Club.
“The excitement is building for the giant pumpkin contest to see who will have the winning pumpkin this year and all giant pumpkins will be on display” said Chairperson Mary Rainville. “There is still time to plan your creative scarecrow to be entered in the scarecrow contest with cash prizes.”
Throughout the day, there will be an art and craft fair and farmer’s market with 40 vendors, Tommy’s Petting Zoo, antique tractor display, hay wagon rides, kids’ games and activity tent, the giant fun slide, inflatables, a Nowthen historical display, food and live music.
Admission to the festival is free.
The Nowthen Business Expo, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., will showcase Nowthen business and organizations.
New this year at the festival will be a catered steak dinner from Texas Roadhouse served under the big tent from 5 to 7 p.m. All of the proceeds from the dinner go to help fund the Heritage Festival.
The day will end with a bang with the “best fireworks ever” at dusk.
