The North Metro Performing Arts Series kicks off its 2012-13 season with “Take Me Home – The Music of John Denver,” a tribute to the late singer/songwriter.
The concert will be performed Thursday, Sept. 27, 7:30 p.m., at the Spring Lake Park Fine Arts Center, 1100 81st Ave. N.E., Spring Lake Park.
Jim Curry, who has emerged as one of the top performers of Denver’s music today and headlined in a Las Vegas with his tribute, will sing and play Denver songs and more.
Curry, who sounds like John Denver, landed an off-camera role singing the voice of Denver in the made for TV movie “Take Me Home, the John Denver Story.”
The North Metro series, sponsored by Spring Lake Park Schools Community Education, is in its second season.
Last year people 250 signed on as subscribers.
“Our goal is to increase it (subscriber members) and to share the sheer joy of theater. The whole idea is to build community,” said Tom Young, concert co-organizer with Ryan Julien in an interview earlier this year.
“The wonderful thing is the neighbors coming together,” Julien said. about audience members.
Three concerts will be performed this season in the North Metro series. Home Free Vocal Band is slated for Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, and Rodney Mack Philadelphia Big Brass will perform Monday, May 13, 2013.
