Fall festival Free To Be fund-raiser

Free To Be, Inc. had its annual fund-raising event at the Coon Rapids Regional Dam Sept. 13. Sam Leon (right), owner of the Acapulco restaurants, cooking made-to-order Mexican cuisine.This fall festival included wine tasting, authentic Mexican cuisine, pie and ice cream, specialty pie auction, wall of wine raffle and car donation.

“Sam Leon, owner of the Acapulco restaurants, provided a delicious array of food and a huge variety of wines for tasting,” said Gary Levine, Free To Be executive director.

Included were reds, whites and champagne.

Jim Kugler, pie master and Free To Be board member, auctioned off seven homemade specialty pies for a total of $600.

Pies for serving were donated by Sam’s Club, Baker’s Square and Perkins.

The highlight of the evening was the donation of a Cadillac Catera, which was given to Free To Be by Sheila Beutler, who in turn handed the keys over to Angela Johnson, according to Levine.

“Angela is a single mom who was in desperate need of a vehicle to get to work and take care of her family,” Levine said.

All the funds raised at fall festival will be used to help clients receive car repairs and donated vehicles, he said.

“To become involved with Free To Be, consider donating a vehicle to us,” Levine said.

“With your support, we can partner together and help a struggling family get back on the road to success.”
