William Carstens and Christine Szurek were crowned 2012 Andover High School Homecoming king and queen during a coronation ceremony Monday night.Carstens’ favorite sports and activities are lacrosse, swimming, football and fishing. He plans to go to school for law enforcement. Szurek is involved with soccer, track, the National Honor Society and the Spanish Club. Her favorite place to eat is Chipotle.
Five couples vied for the crowns. The other four candidates for king were Cole Buffington, Jon Pemberton, Sawyer Phillips and Jake Klockers. The other four candidates for queen were Kenzie Aguilar, Kristine Nielson, Chelsea Schmidt and Amanda Willey.
Sofie Koloc and Todd Marcotte emceed the half-hour coronation ceremony in the auditorium for family and friends. The ceremony kicked off with the national anthem, sung by eight Andover High School students. The senior royalty tried to sing themselves at one point in the program.
Besides the senior royalty, there were three other couples comprising freshman, sophomores and juniors. They were juniors Sara Nicolaisen and Simeon Toronto, sophomores Lauren Hein and Thomas Terhaar and freshman Skylar Cummings and Wes Thompson.

The junior royalty were Homecoming princess Meghan Holgrimson and Homecoming prince Cael Bobbe.
Erin Ritter and Maddy Thor performed the song “Autumn Leaves.”
Andover High School’s Homecoming game is tonight, Sept. 28, starting at 7 p.m. against Osseo.
