East Bethel man accused of threatening with machete

A 25-year-old East Bethel man was arraigned Sept. 17 in Anoka County District Court on felony charges of second-degree assault and terroristic threats.

Mario Andrew Ramotar, 18748 Breezy Point Drive N.E., has been accused of threatening another man with a machete and punching him in the face.

Ramotar told police in a post-Miranda statement that he allegedly did chase this man out of a house while holding a machete, but denied punching him at any time.

According to the complaint, the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to an East Bethel home Sept. 14 at 11:22 p.m. because of a knife threat report.

The victim told deputies that he was at the home to talk about a damaged boat motor, but Ramotar allegedly overhead this conversation, grabbed a machete and told him to leave the home.

He ran to his car to dial 911, but Ramotar allegedly came outside and punched him twice in the head through the open window.

Ramotar’s next court appearance is Oct. 18.
