A 28-year-old Anoka man was sentenced Sept. 12 in Anoka County District Court to five years probation for felony theft.
Joseph James Duffy pleaded guilty to the charge Aug. 17. A felony motor vehicle theft charge was dismissed.
Besides the probation time, Duffy must pay a $385 court fine, pay $327 in restitution to the victim and perform 25 hours of community service each week for the next year. He must also obtain employment within 60 days of the sentencing date and maintain employment for one year.
According to the criminal complaint, a person who lives on the 14000 block of Crane Street N.W. in Andover called police Oct. 30, 2011 to report that his vehicle had been stolen.
After the vehicle description had been entered in the law enforcement database, an Anoka County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped the vehicle the same day.
Duffy was driving the vehicle without a driver’s license, so it was towed and Duffy was dropped off at another Andover home.
After the vehicle theft report came in, authorities located Duffy and arrested him.
