Two Ramsey trail projects got a financial boost last week.
The city received a $100,000 grant from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for a trail from Central Park to Alpine Drive.
The funds come from the 2012 local trail connections program, which is funded by lottery proceeds and the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund, said Councilmember Sarah Strommen during the Sept. 25 Ramsey City Council meeting.
The city also received a $1.2 million grant from the federal transportation enhancement fund for the Mississippi River Trail (MRT), which will run from the Mississippi West Regional Park west to the Ramsey border with Elk River.
This is an estimated $1.5 million project and Anoka County Parks has committed to providing $300,000 of the local match with trail related projects within the regional park to the MRT, said Mark Riverblood, parks and assistant public works superintendent.
The 1.5-mile Central/Alpine trail is not planned to be constructed until sometime in 2013 and the MRT would need to be constructed sometime before 2016 under the grant requirements, he said.
