Anders Flaa died Oct. 13, 2011 at the age of 14 after a two-year battle with brain cancer. He was a seventh-grader at Oak View Middle School at the time of his passing.

To honor him, several staff at the school decided to hold a run/walk fundraiser in his name, according to Melissa Williams, a sixth-grade ELA teacher at the school. Proceeds will go towards the Anders Flaa Scholarship Fund.

There will be a 400-meter run for kids who are 10 years old or younger, starting at 9 a.m. at the middle school. The fee is $5 per runner.

A 5K run/walk will begin at 9:10 a.m. Registration costs $10 per person.

This will be a non-certified course. Nobody will be timed and no runners will have numbers. This is solely to honor Anders’ memory.

Interested participants can pick up entry forms at the community education table at Oak View Middle School or request an electronic entry form from Marc Angell (marc.angell@anoka.k12.mn.us).

Mail or drop off completed forms to Angell at Oak View Middle School, 15400 Hanson Blvd. N.W., Andover, MN 55304. Checks should be payable to Anders Flaa Memorial.

You can sign up in advance or the day of the event. Contact Angell at 763-712-1217 if you have further questions.
