Credit union marks first year with free document shredding

In celebration of United Educators Credit Union’s (UECU) first anniversary in Coon Rapids, the community is invited to attend a free document shredding event.

UECU’s Coon Rapids Shred Day will take place at 11599 Robinson Drive N.W., Saturday, Oct. 13, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The shred event will offer credit union members and the community the opportunity to learn about identity theft and shred unwanted documents for free.

Non-UECU members are welcome to bring up to two boxes for shredding.

The company Shred-It will be on site to shred unwanted personal documents – such as old account statements, canceled checks, credit/debit cards, ATM receipts and unwanted credit card offers.

These items will be shred on the spot by the shredding truck in the parking lot.

Shred day attendees are asked to bring a non-perishable food item.

The credit union is holding a food drive to benefit Evergreen Elementary School in Brooklyn Center. The school just recently opened a food shelf for its families and is in need of donations.

In addition to the Shred Day event, the branch is holding an open house Oct. 9-13 to celebrate its first year.
