Duane M. “Dewey” Albro, 83


Duane M. “Dewey” Albro, age 83 of Palisade, died Saturday, October 6, peacefully of COPD in Aitkin, MN.
Dewey was born April 29, 1929 in Rockford, Illinois the son of Harry and Cora (Gordon) Albro. He grew up and attended schools in St. Paul and Columbia Heights from where he graduated in 1947. He married Virginia J. Lee on October 1, 1949 in Columbia Heights and they made their home in Columbia Heights. He worked for the Columbia Heights Police Dept. for a time. He then worked as a deputy sheriff for Anoka County from 1955 to 1960. The family then moved to Anoka where he served 20 years with the Anoka Police Department from 1965 to 1985 when he retired to Lake Minnewawa near McGregor.
He served in the US Naval Air Reserve for 6 years, was a charter member of the Columbia Heights Lions Club, was a volunteer fireman with the Columbia Heights Fire Dept., had served as Civil Defense Director for Columbia Heights and later for Anoka County, he attended the firearms instructor course at the F.B.I. National Academy, was a past board member of the Minnewawa Lake Association, past president of the Savanna Men’s League Golf 1991 & 1992, past president of the Palisade Super Sledders 1997 & 1998, he enjoyed golfing, hunting and pistol competition. He was an expert marksman.
He is survived by children and spouses: Steve and Karen Albro of St. Francis, MN,.; Nanette Denk of Burnsville, MN.; Sharon and Mike Johnson of Andover, MN.; 5 grandchildren: Josh Albro, Jes Albro, Kelli Bosholm, Tony Denk, Dana Johnson; 5 great grandchildren: Hunter Albro, Connor Albro, Kennadee Denk, Megan Bosholm, Jonah Bosholm, and sister: Vera Olson of Sturgeon Lake, MN.
He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia, son Thomas, Sister Elaine, son in law: Steve Denk and great granddaughter: Lydia Joy Bosholm.
A memorial service was held Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 11 AM at the Holy Family Catholic Church in McGregor.
Burial will be held at the Forest Hills Cemetery in Anoka at a later date.
