Runners cover cold, windy route in Blaine Invitational cross country event

Running on a very windy, cloudy and cold day last week, boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed in the Oct. 4 Blaine Invitational, staged at Majestic Oaks Golf Course.

Local teams from Andover, Coon Rapids, St. Francis and Blaine high schools took part, racing against teams from around the Twin Cities metro and north metro area.

In the end, St. Francis girls finished first and Blaine girls finished third in the girls’ white 4K division of the event.

Emma Eastman of St. Francis was the first to cross the finish line in the 4K, covering the course in 16:36.8.

In the girls’ blue 4K division, Andover took second.

Andover’s Madeline McKeefry was third to cross the finish line with a time of 15:01.5.

In the boys’ blue 5K event, Andover took sixth (boosted by Steven Cotter’s winning time of 15:56.9), while Coon Rapids boys took ninth, St. Francis took 13th place and Blaine took 14th.
