A 21-year-old Nowthen man has been sent to jail and placed on probation by Anoka County District Court for threatening a former girlfriend.
Jeremy Allen Batie, 18661 Yakima St., pleaded guilty to a felony terroristic threats charge and was jailed for 60 days Sept. 18, with credit for three days served, and given five years of supervised probation.
Charges were dismissed for stalking, a second count of terroristic threats and false imprisonment.
According to the complaint, Batie’s 17-year-old former girlfriend, who lives in Ramsey, called the Ramsey Police Department to file a report Dec. 20, 2011 on several incidents were Batie threatened or scared her.
Oct. 1, 2011, Batie showed up at the woman’s workplace and demanded the couple get back together.
He repeated the visit the following day to again demand they get back together and during this visit, the woman saw that Batie had a knife and had been cutting his own arms.
One of her co-workers also reported Batie was carrying a knife.
The woman was able to slip out the back door as her mother pulled up with her vehicle to pick her up.
A two-year order of protection was signed by Judge Thomas Fitzpatrick Oct. 17, 2011 prohibiting Batie from having any contact with the woman or her residence.
According to the court documents, Batie entered woman’s home Nov. 17, 2011 and encountered one of her male relatives.
The man said Batie had a scissor blade and was threatening him with it, forcing him into the basement.
Once in the basement, Batie bound the man’s ankles and wrists with duct tape and covered his mouth with the tape.
Batie then waited until the woman arrived, then threatened her with the scissor blade and pulled her downstairs.
He also threatened to harm the woman and the man unless she got back together with him.
The pair were able to talk to Batie, calm him down and he eventually left the home.
The woman reported to the officers that she believed Batie has been attempting to contact her via social media, including Facebook and Craig’s List.
