Park Dental has opened a new clinic in Coon Rapids – its second in the city.

Members of the MetroNorth Chamber of Commerce went to the clinic, located at 3161 Northdale Blvd., for a ribbon-cutting ceremony Oct. 1.

Park Dental has 24 other clinics in the Twin Cities area, including the Springbrook Drive location in Coon Rapids and one in Blaine, according to Jan Tiffany, Park Dental business development director.

The business was founded by Drs. Greg Swenson and Brian Murn in 1972 in Brooklyn Park and now has some 90 dentists on staff in its 25 offices.

The Northdale office is staffed by Dr. Brett Knutson, a general family dentist, as well as oral surgeon Dr. Matthew Karben and orthodontist Dr. James Hulwi III.

Karben and Hulwi are members of The Dental Specialists, an offshoot of Park Dental.

At this time, Knutson, who has been with Park Dental since 2004 and also practices at the Blaine clinic will be at the Northdale location Mondays and Tuesdays with Wednesdays to be added soon.

In addition, Karben sees patients at the Northdale office Tuesdays and Thursdays and Hulwi on Tuesdays and Fridays.

“Someone is at the clinic all five days of the week that it is open,” Knutson said.

According to Dr. John Gulon, president of Park Dental, the new office in Coon Rapids will fill a gap between the offices in Blaine and Maple Grove.

Park Dental has patients in Anoka, Andover, Champlin and Elk River and this will be more convenient for them, Gulon said.

The office totals 3,200 square feet and has five treatment rooms which will grow to eight treatment rooms by the end of the year, according to Knutson.

He has five employees on his support team, while Karben and Hulwi each have four, Knutson said.

MetroNorth chamber members taking part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony were Holly Krebsbach, membership resource director, and Ambassador Committee members Keith Lis of Farmers Insurance and Rose Holmberg of Being Organic.

According to its website, Swenson and Murn formed Park Dental as a group practice 40 years ago with a vision to bring consistent, high quality, affordable dental care to their community.

Its mission is to provide quality, patient-centered care, Gulon said.
