Open houses cap Fire Prevention Week activities

The Coon Rapids Fire Department capped Fire Prevention Week activities Saturday with open houses at its three fire stations.

Tours were given at all three stations, fire apparatus was on display for kids to explore and cookies and juice were served.

There were also special events at each of the three stations.

At Fire Station 1 on Egret Boulevard, Yo Yo Master Dazzling Dave performed followed by a car extrication demonstration.

Disc jockey Matt Perkins’ presented a dance club show at Fire Station 2 on 121st Avenue N.W. after which firefighters put on a sprinkler demonstration.

And at Fire Station 3 on 113th Avenue N.W., a kitchen fire demonstration took place.

Earlier in the week, a team of firefighters paid visits to nine elementary schools in Coon Rapids and made three presentations to different grade levels at each school.

The theme of this year’s Fire Prevention Week was to make sure there are two ways out of a residence in case of a fire.
