At the Anoka American Legion and Auxiliary joint meetingn Oct. 2, the members were honored to have the boy and girl staters speak about their experiences at Girls and Boys State. They are currently seniors at Anoka High School.
They spent one week this past June participating in the boys and girls state program. The boys were at Southwest State University in Marshall and the girls were at Bethel University in St. Paul.
The programs are a practical application of Americanism and good citizenship. It is to inform them about the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship in order that they may understand and participate in the functioning of their government.
Minnesota Girls State is sponsored by The American Legion Auxiliary and the Boys State is sponsored by The American Legion.
Attending from Anoka High School were Isabella Dotzler, Karin Larson, Crystal Marshall, Haley Larson, Nicole Wahl, Reid Olson, Ryan Thomas and Sean Quinn. Attending from Andover High School were Bjorn Kjelstad, Alec Francen and Aaron Moore.
