Man pleads guilty to kicking in door, entering Ham Lake home

A 27-year-old male pleaded guilty Oct. 9 in Anoka County District Court to a felony first-degree burglary charge, which stemmed from a Ham Lake case.

Leewill Garfield Jones of Little Canada will be sentenced Nov. 6.

According to the criminal complaint, Jones kicked open the door of a Ham Lake home in the 1100 block of 143rd Avenue Sept. 13. The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched at 11:58 a.m. that day.

The homeowner told police that she heard a knock at her front door when she was in the shower. After she got out of the shower and went to the door to answer it, the door was kicked in.

Jones walked about six feet into her home and then turned and ran outside. He got into a car that drove away.

According to the complaint, police stopped the vehicle that Jones was riding in a short distance from the crime scene. The homeowner said she was 100 percent positive that Jones was the man who kicked in the door and entered her home.
