A vacancy on the Nowthen City Council will not be filled until new councilmembers take office in January 2013.
The city council last week unanimously agreed to keep the council seat currently held by Orval Leistico open until the first of the year.
Leistico has been absent from the council since June due to illness.
At its Oct. 9 meeting, the council declared a vacancy on the council and opted to keep the seat open through the remainder of the year.
Leistico’s council seat is one of two seats up for grabs in the Nov. 6 general election. Councilmember Laurie Olmon is not seeking re-election.
Five residents are seeking election to the council, including Dale Gene Ames, Robert Mahutga, Mary Rainville, Paul Reighard and Jim Scheffler.
The top two vote getters will serve on the Nowthen City Council.
