Blaine voters return all incumbents to office

Satisfied with their current council, Blaine voters returned all four incumbents to office.

With nobody opposing Tom Ryan, the incumbent mayor received 22,554 votes. Only 466 other names were written in.

This will be Ryan’s fifth, four-year term on the council as mayor. He was first elected to be the mayor of Blaine in 1996. Prior to this, he served for 10 years as a Ward 2 councilmember. He has lived in Blaine for 43 years.

Councilmember Dick Swanson was re-elected to the Ward 1 council seat with 4,528 votes. His challenger Jason Babler received 3,157 votes. There were 27 write-ins.

Swanson, a 29-year resident of Council Ward 1, has served on the council for 19 years.

In Ward 2, Councilmember Mike Bourke held off Dave Morrell by receiving 4,461 votes compared to Morrell’s 3,456 votes. This will be Bourke’s third four-year term on the council.

Russ Herbst, the incumbent councilmember for Ward 3, was unopposed and received 7,694 votes. There were 84 write-ins for this council ward. Herbst has served on the council since 2000.
