A 55-year-old Blaine man accused of robbing a TCF Bank in Blaine on Nov. 17 was arraigned Nov. 20 in Anoka County District Court on a felony first-degree aggravated robbery charge.
Michael Lee Watts, 15 116th Ave. N.E., will make his next court appearance Dec. 19.
According to the criminal complaint, the Blaine Police Department at 10:34 a.m. Nov. 17 was alerted that a robbery had just occurred at the TCF Bank at 331 County Road 10.
On arrival in the area, officers located a suspect who matched the physical description of the robber. They saw he had red ink all over his left arm and hand. Some of the bank currency Watts allegedly stole contained a dye pack.
When officers detained Watts, he allegedly stated, “Yeah, it’s me, you got me.”
Authorities recovered a large amount of U.S. currency. The serial numbers of some of the bills allegedly matched those that had been pre-packaged at the bank into a bundle containing a dye pack.
According to the complaint, bank personnel told police that a man had approached the counter and stated, “I have a weapon, put the money in the bag.”
Police allegedly found a knife under Watts’ sleeve after he told them about it while being detained.
