The recent works of Anoka-Ramsey Community College art faculty members, Anthony Marchetti and Laura Migliorino, are included in an exhibition titled, “Crossing Borders/Photographing Tijuana,” Nov. 29–Dec. 14 at the Concordia University Art Center, St Paul.
A panel discussion Dec. 6 at 6:30 p.m. will include Marchetti and Migliorino. Marchetti was awarded a $10,000 Minnesota State Arts Board for the project, titled “Occidente Nuevo: Recycled Tijuana.”
Collaborating with Migliorino, Marchetti has been traveling to Tijuana and the surrounding area to photograph the results of the cross-border transmigration of building materials and small suburban homes from San Diego, Calif., while Migliorino has been creating portraits of people living in the structures.
Viewed together, the resulting photos create a dialogue and a comprehensive view of the area.
This marks Marchetti’s second arts board grant. Migliorino also received a 2010 arts board grant for $8,000.
