Has the recent reconstruction of a section of Highway 65 through East Bethel resulted in more road noise? At least one area resident thinks so.
Ty Hines, a longtime resident in the area of 229th Avenue in East Bethel, complained to the East Bethel City Council Nov. 19 that the noise from Highway 65 “is getting ridiculous.”
He has lost the peace and tranquility he used to enjoy on his property and that living there is now like living next to a jet airport, Hines said.
“I can’t even hear the birds chirping anymore,” he said.
Hines said he thinks the concrete roadway is louder than the previous asphalt one and that the road’s increased elevation projects road sounds more. He proposed that the city council consider installing earth berm sound barriers along Highway 65 in that area.
East Bethel Mayor Richard Lawrence thanked Hines for sharing his concerns and said city staff will look into the issue.
