Students at Hoover Elementary School, Coon Rapids, could do their holiday shopping for their family and friends at the school Friday evening and Saturday morning.
The school’s parents group put on the Holiday Shoppe event for the first time Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.
More than 100 students in kindergarten through third-grade registered for the Holiday Shoppe, according to Richard Bloodgood, Hoover parent volunteer.
The parents group had provided gifts for them to buy, both for children and adults, even pets.
No item cost more than $5, while dog bones and small toys for cats went for 25 cents each.
The smaller children were accompanied by student volunteers, some of them fourth- and fifth-graders from Hoover as well as older students from other schools.
Parent volunteers were on hand to be cashiers and wrap the gifts that had been purchased, as well as run concessions.
The school gym/cafeteria was partitioned into two, one area for the children to shop and the other where parents waited and where refreshments were available.
