A 2012 holiday lighting contest is being sponsored by the Coon Rapids Arts Commission.
This annual event allows residents to compete and display their holiday spirit through their lights.
“Even if your house has a million lights on display or just a few strings, we encourage everyone to enter and join the community fun,” said John Kocon, Coon Rapids Arts Commission member.
“This year we are hoping for a bigger turnout.”
There will be a first prize of $100 and a second prize of $75 in two categories – moving displays nontraditional and single feature, still lights, traditional.
Winners will also receive a certificate.
All entries are automatically entered in both categories.
Judging will take place the week of Dec. 16 through 21 between 6 and 9 p.m. which means the lights have to be illuminated for public viewing during that time.
Judges will use score sheets to rate each property on visual appeal, overall impact, uniqueness, variety of decorations, safety and tidiness.
Contestants can pick up entry forms at the Coon Rapids City Center or go online to the city of Coon Rapids’ website at www.ci.coonrapids.mn.us and print them off.
Entries can be e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. The deadline is noon Thursday, Dec. 13.
CTN Channel 16 will display the addresses of residents taking part in the competition.
The winners will be announced Jan. 2 on CTN Channel 16, the city’s website and social media.
The cash prizes are provided by the Coon Rapids Arts Commission.
