Applications are being taken through Dec. 31 for entries in the annual Coon Rapids Snowflake Days Junior Royalty Pageant, which will take place Feb. 2, 2013.
There will be four pageant categories – Petite Division, ages 5-7 years girls; Petite Division, ages 5-9 boys; Junior Division, ages 8-12 girls; and Teen Division, ages 13-16 girls.
This pageant is open to boys and girls that live, attend school or worship in Coon Rapids.
Orientation/pictures will take place Thursday, Jan. 10, 6 to 9 p.m., at Epiphany School cafeteria followed by a Monday, Jan. 14 pizza party/rehearsal, 6 to 9 p.m., in the Epiphany School cafeteria.
Rehearsals will be Mondays, Jan. 21 and 28, 6 to 9 p.m., in the Coon Rapids High School Auditorium with personal interview Tuesday, Jan. 29, 6 to 9 p.m., at Eisenhower Elementary School, Coon Rapids.
Pageant day Saturday, Feb. 2 will include a dress rehearsal from 10 a.m. to noon followed by the pageant itself at 1 p.m., both in the high school auditorium.
Competition is based on 50 percent interview and 50 percent modeling with personal speech.
For the interview, candidates wear a sportswear outfit (dress pants, shirts, skirts, etc), while for modeling/speech, the attire is party dress for petite/junior girls (t-length or short), formal for teens and dress pants and tie for boys (suits/tuxes optional).
The entry fee is $75, which includes pageant T-shirt, pizza party, snacks at rehearsal and participation trophy.
Queen, princess and commodore winners receive sashes, trophies, crowns/caps and flower bouquets.
Winners are expected to participate in a minimum of 19 parades as well as coronations and various other fun community events and activities during Snowflake Days as well as throughout the year, according to Diane Buszta, pageant director.
They will also be asked to perform, as a group, 10 hours of community service for the city of Coon Rapids, Buszta said.
All pageant tickets are $8. Children under four can attend the pageant free.
