Man convicted of breaking into dead woman’s home

A St. Paul man has been sentenced for burglarizing the home of a deceased Ramsey woman.

John Manuel Contreras, 24, was convicted in Anoka County District Court Dec. 3 of felony third-degree burglary and was sent to prison for 21 months.

Contreras was given credit for 65 day served.

According to the criminal complaint, a neighbor on the 14000 block of Argon Street N.W. had spotted suspicious activities Sept. 26 at a home of a neighbor, who had died the week prior, around 1:45 a.m. and a U-Haul in the driveway.

When police arrived they found Jeffrey Lancman, 42, and Contreras, both of St. Paul, in the home.

Officers allegedly saw Lancman digging around in dressers and jewelry boxes and handing things to Contreras before confronting them.

When confronted, the men tried to escape into the neighborhood, but were apprehended and arrested.

Lancman is schedule for jury trial on April 15, 2013
