Boys’ Basketball: Holiday Tournament Dec. 27 recaps

• Andover came up short against Hopkins 79-56 in the opening round of the Augsburg Classic in Minneapolis Thursday. The Royals led 38-26 at the half and added another 11 points to the lead in the second half. Andover’s Kane Ruhl led the team with 11 points while Hopkins had three players in double-digits led by Jamal Davis with 13 points.

• St. Francis opened play in the Dassel-Cokato Tournament with a 71-51 win over Detroit Lakes Dec. 27. The win sets up a meeting against Zimmerman who handed the host Chargers a 52-44 loss in the other game of the tournament. The Saints sophomore center Blake Moreno had a game-high 21 points while junior forward Jake Johnson added 15 points and junior guard Austin Carlson added 14 points.

• PACT lost its Mounds Park Academy Tournament opener to St. Croix Lutheran 66-50 Dec. 27. Panthers senior guard Drew Zieroth had a game-high 19 points and junior guard Danny Mooers had 10 points in the loss.

• Seventh-ranked (Class AAA) Spring Lake Park was upset by Hayfield 70-59 in the Tartan Invitational quarterfinals Dec. 27. The Panthers face Bloomington Kennedy in the consolation bracket after Centennial downed the Eagles 73-69.
