Man robs Coon Rapids jewelry store

A diamond ring valued at $15,599 was reported stolen in a strong arm robbery at Kay Jewelers, 12699 Riverdale Blvd., Coon Rapids, late Sunday afternoon.

According to the Coon Rapids Police reports, when a man entered the store Dec. 30 the two employees were suspicious because he had been at the store the day before looking at a diamond ring.

This time, he asked one of the employees to try it on for him and when she did, he grabbed her hand, squeezed her fingers and pulled off the ring, then left the store on foot.

The diamond ring is described as a high end quality 1.6 carat Leo ring.

A second employee follow the man to the Costco parking lot where he got into a parked car and left.

The suspect was described as a white male, 19 to 21 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall with sandy blond hair.

He was wearing a tan jacket with fur collar, black jeans and blue shoes.

The car in which he drove off was described as a white, two-door Toyota Celica.

The employee who had the ring pulled off her finger suffered bruising to her right pinky finger and planned to go to an urgent care, the police report states.

The incident is under investigation by the Coon Rapids Police Department and Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.
