In its last act of 2012, the Ramsey City Council purchased a property affected by the Sunwood Drive re-alignment.
The council unanimously approved purchasing a 1.44-acre property at 8019 146th Ave. N.W., owned by USCO Corporation, for $625,000.
The property, which contains a multi-tenant building, was partially affected when Sunwood Drive alignment at Armstrong Boulevard was shifted to the north, City Administrator Kurt Ulrich said.
The new alignment and the closure of 146th Avenue restricted the access to the site, he said.
Rather than just doing a partial purchase of the land, the council decided to buy the entire property for potential future development, Ulrich said.
While some of the purchase details are still being negotiated, the city will be leasing the building back to USCO Corporation for $1,600 a month for the next year with the former owner being responsible for the upkeep and maintenance, he said.
The agreement includes extension options.
