Nordic ski teams returned to Northwest Suburban Conference action at Elm Creek Park Reserve Jan. 3.
The boys’ varsity classic race covered 7.5 kilometers and was won by Armstrong’s Jon Delaney in a time of 22 minutes, 25 seconds, while Osseo’s Tanner Wetzel edged Andover’s Lucas Heib by two seconds for second place (22:50, 22:52).
Coon Rapids’ Steven Mueggenberg placed fourth (23:03) and Andover’s Erik Larson (23:36) rounded out the top five individuals.
Anoka’s Thomas Hagerty led the team with a 15th-place finish in 25:08 and Blaine’s Luke Setterholm placed 70th.
Osseo swept the top two spots in the girls’ race, while Andover’s Maddie McKeefry was third in 24:56, 56 seconds behind the race winner. Andover had four skiers finish among the top 12.
Coon Rapids’ Anna Nelson was fourth in 25:39 and Anoka’s Destiny Schultz led the team with a 14th-place finish in 29:27.
Panthers at Battle Creek
Spring Lake Park took part in a Twin Cities North Suburban Conference race at Battle Creek Jan. 3.
Irondale won the boys’ 5k skate race over St. Louis Park by 25 points, while Spring Lake Park finished eighth in the 10-team field.
Spring Lake Park junior Jake Ajax placed sixth overall in 13:58. Sophomore teammates Nick Lawson was 42nd in 16:43 and Cole Grotting was 70th in 17:09.
The Panther girls’ team garnered ninth place, led by freshman Erin Guse, who placed 20th in 19:06, and junior teammate Melissa Marsh was 24th in 19:10.
