Man sentenced in theft of Ramsey relative’s vehicle

A 28-year-old Elk River man has been given jail time and probation for stealing a relative’s vehicle.

Justin Paul McClellan was sentenced in Anoka County District Court Nov. 28 to 99 days in jail and five years of supervised probation for using a motor vehicle without permission.

McClellan pleaded guilty Oct. 29 to felony theft by taking/driving motor vehicle without owner consent.

On Dec. 18, 2011, McClellan was staying with a 84-year-old relative, who lives on the 14300 block of Dysprosium Street.

McClellan took the relative’s 2008 Dodge Durango without permission on Dec. 18, despite repeated warnings from the owner not to use the vehicle.

The vehicle was returned without license plates and damage to the front bumper.

McClellan had been stopped by Coon Rapids police Dec. 18, 2011 and arrested for driving after license cancelation and without license plates.

The vehicle was returned to the owner by McClellan’s passenger.

Ramsey police were called by the victim Feb. 28 for a domestic disturbance and were asked to remove McClellan from the home.
