Masterpiece Book Club begins turning pages

Jim Bofenkamp is a real page-turner. He reads books, he talks about books, he writes about books, he organizes and leads book clubs – he loves books.

Bofenkamp invites book-lovers of all sorts to join him in reading and discussing 12 classics during Masterpiece Book Club meetings this year.

The club meets 1 to 3 p.m. at the Coon Rapids Senior Center the second Tuesday of every month.

There is no cost to be part of the Masterpiece Book Club, Bofenkamp said, and there are still two or three spots available.

This year, the Masterpiece Book Club reading list looks like this:

• January: “Sophie’s Choice” by William Styron

• February: “The Age of Innocence” by Edith Wharton

• March: “Follow the River” by James Alexander Thom

• April: “Far From the Madding Crowd” by Thomas Hardy

• May: “Madame Bovary” by Gustave Flaubert

• June: “The Shoemaker’s Wife” by Adriana Trigiani

• July: “The Portrait of a Lady” by Henry James

• August: “Love in the Time of Cholera” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

• September: “Babbitt” by Sinclair Lewis

• October: “A Handful of Dust” by Evelyn Waugh

• November: “The Handmaid’s Tale” by Margaret Atwood

• December: “Birdsong” by Sebastian Faulks
