Andover Winter Classic is set
Andover Youth Hockey Association will host its third annual mite-level Winter Classic at the rinks west of the Andover Community Center on Crosstown Blvd or County highway 18, Jan. 18-19. Nearly 600 kids from 33 teams across the Twin Cities area including Andover, Edina, Maple Grove, Anoka, Mora, Elk River and Champlin among others will take part in the outdoor tournament held on the same day as Hockey Day Minnesota.

Defending The Blue Line will take part in a ceremony at 1 p.m. Saturday and proceeds from a silent auction will go to support the program which helps military families stay or begin playing hockey by donating equipment or assistence in paying team fees. A color guard and youth hockey players will also take part in the ceremony. Concessions will be available in addition to live music and a bonfire to keep everyone warm.

Anoka hockey in special threads
Anoka girls’ hockey hopes to raise a lot of money to support Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation during its Jan. 19 game against No. 7-ranked Andover with a 3 p.m. start.

Anoka High School’s DECA program is sponsoring the fundraiser which includes warm-up jersies which will be auctioned off after the game in addition to selling “Dropping the gloves on cancer” t-shirts among other items to be given away.

North Metro Soccer
North Metro Soccer Assocation (NMSA) is accepting online registration for its recreation spring/summer program in addition to on-site registration 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Feb. 9 at Adrenaline Sports Center (11521 Eagle St., Coon Rapids). Registration dates and pricing are listed below:
Jan. 7-Feb. 28 ($90 for recreation or $110 for competitive prep, which is a program designed to transition children from rec to competitive.)
March 1-March 15 ($125 for recreation or $145 for competitive prep.)
NMSA offers programs for boys and girls from 6 to 18 year olds. U6 players receive a free ball in a co-ed program. U13-U18 is also co-ed while U8-12 offer gener-specific teams.
