Gould’s robbery suspect in custody

One man is in custody following a robbery at Gould’s Diamonds and Jewelry on Wednesday afternoon (Jan. 16).

Anoka Police were called to the store at the corner of Main Street and Seventh Avenue at 3:38 p.m. where staff reported a man had run off with an expensive ring he was looking at in the store, according to Chief Phil Johanson.

The suspect was apprehended within a half-hour at a home in the neighborhood.

Anoka Police Capt. Scott Nolan said the quick arrest came with the help of several witnesses, including the store’s staff and customers as well those who were outside who saw the direction the suspect had run off in.

Gould’s reported the ring was valued at $650. No weapon was used in the theft and none of the jewelry store staff were harmed in the incident.

A 20-year-old male is currently being held at the Anoka County Jail. Felony theft charges are expected later Thursday.
