On New Year’s Day the Coon Rapids American Legion Post 334 collected food for the ACBC Foodshelf in Anoka at its annual Tom and Jerry Appreciation Day.
It all started between 7 and 8 a.m., when approximately 17 Legion Post and Auxiliary members came to prepare the Tom and Jerrys and food for the event, which took place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Tom and Jerry Appreciation Day is an annual event to thank members and customers who attend and support the Legion throughout the year.
Monetary donations were also collected for the ACBC Foodshelf, along with donations for the fixing of the roof fund.
During the month of December, members collected food in the American Legion lounge and donated those food items to the ACBC Foodshelf.
The generosity of American Legion members did not stop there,” said Diane Bohlman, Coon Rapids American Legion Auxiliary public relations chairperson.
“Toys were collected and brought to the Anoka Armory before Christmas to be distributed to needy families in the Anoka County area as part of the Toys for Joy drive. This is another annual event in which the Coon Rapids American Legion family support and participate.
This year, Children and Youth Co-Chairperson Shirley Mosher brought the many toys collected to the Anoka Armory donation/distribution site.
“The Coon Rapids American Legion thanks all volunteers and members who help to make this and all events a success,” Bohlman said.
