Anoka County Board goes on the road

The Anoka County Board is on the road for its next two meetings.

Two years ago, when County Commissioner Rhonda Sivarajah became board chairperson, she initiated a policy that a county board meeting would take place in each of the seven commissioner districts during the year.

That happened in 2011 and again last year.

But the reason these two meetings are off-site is because of construction work taking place in the county board room on the seventh floor of the Anoka County Government Center.

Technology upgrades are under way in the board room as a result of a contract awarded by the county board late last year.

According to Martha Weaver, county public information manager, the audio/visual features of the room date back to when the building was built in the early 1990s.

The electronics are original and have outlived their normal lifespan of 10-15 years, Weaver wrote in an e-mail to ABC Newspapers.

The AV controls for both the county board room (705) and the adjoining room (710) are being upgraded to current standards, she wrote.

“We are very excited about this for several reasons,” Weaver wrote.

“The room is often used for training and the new technology will enable us to broadcast that training via the web so employees can view it from anywhere and not have to travel to attend the training in person. The same goes for the board meetings.

“We’re also putting in some technology in the anteroom that is designed to increase collaboration and effectiveness of the space as a meeting room.”

It will all be controllable from an iPad or other simple device so that it will not take multiple people to get a room ready for a presentation or meeting, rather just the touch of a button, according to Weaver.

The agenda for the county board’s Jan. 22 meeting is posted at board/meetings.aspx.
