‘Swedes in Minnesota’ program

“Swedes in Minnesota” is the topic of Coon Rapids Senior Services’ monthly Tea Talk program at the Coon Rapids Civic Center.

Author Anne Gillespie Lewis will present the program Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 1:30 p.m.

Lewis will talk about the history of Swedes in Minnesota.

By the turn of the 20th century, over 126,000 Swedes lived in Minnesota.

Lewis tells the story through the people – anecdotes, letters and interviews from immigrants themselves.

She will also talk about the cultural institutions that the Swedes founded such as churches, schools, lodges, newspapers, businesses and neighborhoods.
