The Knights of Columbus hosted a chili and hot dog feed in the cafeteria from 4 to 7:30 p.m., while the Coon Rapids Snowflake Association and Coon Rapids Junior Royalty presented a community sock hop dance in the school gymnasium from 6 to 9 p.m.

Both events were free, but people were asked to bring non-perishable food items to both to be donated to the food shelf.

At the sock hop, disc jockey Eric Christensen of Eclectic Entertainment with DJ E, played music from the 1950s and 1960s. He volunteered his time for the dance.

And those attending the sock hop dance were invited to come dressed in clothes from that era, for example, poodle skirts and saddle shoes.

There were competitions during the event, including a hula hoop contest, with prizes and glow in the dark necklaces were given out.
