Second weekend of 2013 Snowflake Days events

The second weekend of the 2013 Coon Rapids Snowflake Days celebration has two major events.

The 49th annual Snowflake Days runs through Saturday, Feb. 9.

The second and third days of the annual Mayor’s Cup Simulator Golf Tournament will take place at the Bunker Hills Golf Course Clubhouse today (Friday, Feb. 1) and tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 2).

First round play in the 18-hole, two-person scramble format takes place today at 12:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. with the conclusion of first round action tomorrow at 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

The final round at 5:30 p.m. features the top eight teams qualifying from the first round.

The 18-hole final on the four golf simulators in the clubhouse will be on a predetermined, undisclosed course – there are some 30 to choose from – with the winning team being decided on the lowest two-round score.

The Coon Rapids Junior Royalty Pageant is tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 2), 1 p.m., at Coon Rapids High School auditorium.

There will be candidates in three divisions – petite, girls age five through seven; junior, girls age eight through 12; and teen, girls age 13 through 16.

Candidates are:

• Petite Division: Marissa Stanley, Chloe Lynn Keller, Natalie Taylor and Lauryn Nicole Smith.

• Junior Division: Hannah Mudick, Maggie Gese, Isabel Carlson, Liberty Kelley, Maya McCarty, Grace Olson, Erin Kelley and McKenzie Hagen.

• Teen Division: Jessica Sherlock, Katie Jo Ascheman and Kelly Gese.

Competition is based on 50 percent interview and 50 percent modeling with personal speech.

Tickets for the pageant cost $8 and dozens of silent auction items will be available for bidding.

The annual Miss Coon Rapids Scholarship Pageant, which normally takes place in the evening after the Junior Royalty Pageant, was moved to November 2012.

A seniors only Snowflake Days event is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 6. Snowflake Bingo is at 10:30 a.m. at the Coon Rapids Civic Center and is presented by Coon Rapids Senior Services.

The final event of Snowflake Days 2013 is Saturday, Feb. 9 with the annual children’s carnival at Epiphany School from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Sponsored by the Coon Rapids Snowflake Association and hosted by the families of the newly-crowned Coon Rapids Junior Royalty, the event will feature face painting, disc jockey, magic show at 11:45 a.m., concessions, carnival games and prizes.
